Senior Systems Engineer

Affinity apps are a multiple-award-winning creative suite of professional applications, setting the industry standard in the world of design. Due to incredible success, we’re now recruiting a Senior Systems Engineer to help deliver support across the business as we continue to grow.

The role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to join our Serif Labs team and hit the ground running. This role will include assisting with developing API, websites, workflows, and tooling all to support the smooth running of the Affinity range of desktops and Affinity mobile software application. This opportunity will allow you to collaborate with different teams across the business to design, develop backend solutions using .NET Core, Golang and AWS services. In addition to this, the successful candidate will enhance system scalability by leading the design and implementation of microservices and event- driven architectures.


Design and implement software systems

  • Understand the business requirements and design, develop, and implement web-app, API and web-site solutions in both a server and server-less environment
  • Plan, design and implement databases, tooling, and workflows to support these systems
  • Drive the implementation of automated testing strategies, including unit, integration, and acceptance tests, to ensure code quality and reliability

Work with cloud-based infrastructure and products to deliver solutions

  • Using AWS to design highly available and scalable solutions

Communicate your ideas effectively and take responsibility for documentation

  • Communicate technical ideas with the team
  • Communicate your ideas across teams of varying technical ability
  • Participate in code reviews and collaborative design sessions to ensure best practices, coding standards, and security measures are adhered to


  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in Computing, Maths or Engineering
  • Excellent knowledge and experience of C# and .NET Core, or similar levels of experience in another language such as JAVA or Golang and a willingness to learn
  • A commitment to learning new languages, frameworks and technologies in order to apply the most appropriate solution to the problem in hand
  • Experience of designing, developing and launching APIs and service layer components
  • A proven track record of working and integrating deeply into a cloud hosting environment such as AWS or Microsoft Azure
  • Knowledge and experience of working with microservice and event-driven architectures
  • Experience of NoSQL databases such as DynamoDb
  • Knowledge of infrastructure as code (IaC) as an approach and experience in applying this using tools such as AWS CloudFormation and Terraform


  • Experience of working in Golang or TypeScript
  • Experience of cloud-based systems and development
  • Experience of working with Version control systems like GIT
