safoster71
I'm sure its a bug... but you apparently can't save an alpha channel (keyed) file anymore. Not in PNG, or TIFF. Kinda need that :-)
Staff Jon P Posted August 31, 2016 Staff Share Posted August 31, 2016 Hi Safoster, I've just exported a png and tiff with transparency, can you let me know what settings you are using to export to if the transparency is being stripped from the export? Thanks Serif Europe Ltd. - www.serif.com
safoster71
used the "default" setting (which says 24...a key is 32. not sure why but the official version says the same thing, go figure) Attached is a source file, with a png and tif saved example....neither of which kept the key. test file.afphoto test2.tiff
safoster71
tried the same steps in Designer. It keeps the key. FYI :-)
Staff Jon P Posted September 1, 2016 Staff Share Posted September 1, 2016 I believe this is due to the way we changed how backgrounds export, in Designer (1.4.2) we always export transparent background, but you'll now need to set the document to have a transparent background if you want this exported. If you tick Document > Transparent Background and then export does it export as intended? Serif Europe Ltd. - www.serif.com
stevenj16
I've just come across this myself. Document > Transparent Background does not force the alpha channel to be saved. The only workaround I have found is to make one pixel 99% opaque.
Dave Harris
We don't bother including the alpha channel if every pixel would be all 100%, because it would be a waste of space. Is this what is happening? If so, why do you need the alpha channel in this case?
Frankster
Hi, I'm having similar issues with the png export too. The exported file is missing all sorts of layers which are not at 100% opacity and when they do appear they are severely distorted. Attached Sample_.....png and .jpg are the same .aphoto export in png and jpg formats for a design for work. The jpg captures what it should look like (although at a bit of a loss of quality can't get why) the png is horrific... Frankster
Staff MEB Posted February 28, 2017 Staff Share Posted February 28, 2017 Hi Frankster, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) Can you please upload the afdesign/afphoto file using this link so we can take a look/log this. Don't forget to add your forum username (@Frankster) to the file name. Thanks A Guide to Learning Affinity Software

Frankster
Will do once I get the ok internally to send out master file for a forthcoming publication. In the meantime, the other example of missing / distorted images when exported to png is attached. Frankster. bookCoverBoD.afphoto
Staff MEB Posted February 28, 2017 Staff Share Posted February 28, 2017 Thanks for the file Frankster. I will pass it to the dev team to be checked. For now you can work around this exporting as PNG-24. You may have to optimise the file further using a third-party app if you intend to use it for web. Regarding the first file, you can resize it to make it much smaller. This will not affect the issue at hand and will allow us to check the file structure. All files you send for us are only for internal testing/fixing purposes and are deleted afterwards. A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
Frankster
Hi, I've just encountered the issue on yet another cover. Got the ok to send it over so used your link. That is still a production title so I can't attach the screenshot here for that one but have the exact same tearing and white pixelated effect when saving to png. The .aphoto file has been uploaded for you.
Frankster
Hi, Ok managed to replicate this one every time now. Here are the files... tumblrIcon.png is what I get when exporting to png from Affinity Photo. The tumblrIcon.jpg is what it should look like and the tumblrIcon.afphoto is the Affinity Photo source file. Can't really use the jpg version because I lose my transparency. So am having to export to PSD, then open it in Photoshop Elements (I know awful) then export it as png from there.... :( Frankster tumblrIcon.afphoto
