mfarooqi
It's bug i think... in selection tool.. Please follow the following steps to get an idea. BUG #1 1. select some area with rectangular/Elliptical marquee with "add" option 2. Then select "subtract" or "Intersect" option from toolbar 3. now start selecting from within already selected area, the original selection starts dragging BUG #2 4. If i start selection from outside previously selected area, no marquee appears (that should be visible to see if there is anything working or not) and also some time user can forget what portion is already selected. BUG #3 1. If I first select some area with any marquee tool., Rect, Ellip or freehand 2. Now intersect with freehand marquee tool, if started intersection from within previously selected area that doesn't work as mentioned above. but also if started "intersecting" from outside of previously selected area, that doesn't work at all and deselects everything as well.. BUG #4 1. If intersect option was remain selected in last actions under marquee tools.. now when marquee tools is selected to select some area, .. a very new selection on blank area with marquee tools (where intersect/subtract option is already selected), nothing happens .. that should select something as first level selection. BUG #4 1. similarly as above.. i started selecting a very complex image with magic, lasso (polygonal) tools .. and option was previously selected as "subtract" and i forgot to change "add" option from "subtract" and made a very precise marquee selection and all gone when I finished selecting area. So please 2 features are literally required. 1. if any option under marquee is already selected "new", "add", "subtract", "intersect", then first selection should behave as "new" selection.. 2. if selection is started from within already selected area, then marquee tool should convert into "move" tool. thank you I hope I put some reasonable words. moooztar
I agree that the logic on marquee´ing could be better. It works for me as is; but only for the straight line tool. If that is used then you won´t have a problem with add / subtract and the "move" (all the current selections). However if you make a new line, select add and use "freehand" (I use Astropad Studio on my iPad Pro for making quick selections) then you get the "move" problem if you add inside another "selection that is added". If you however add to something new and "draw into" the current selection you are fine. The "move all" should only be available with a custom key held in (like cmd or alt etc). It should not be on by default.
velarde
Can confirm all of this list. Selection in Affinity Photo is not as simple and intuitive as it could be. I think you are overcomplicating it with the mode: new. add, substrate and intersect option. Just keep it simple and when I make a new selection it is always "new". Then if I select again and use the shift key I "add" to the selection or if I use the option key I "subtract". That's it :) no need to click on extra setting/s mode. And always have a visual feedback of the marquee selection. It's bug i think... in selection tool.. Please follow the following steps to get an idea. velarde
Hi just revisiting this topic started 6 months ago. Are any of these issues reported by mfarooqi in the work list....? Would be great help to implement ALL his suggestions. Selection tools are VERY important in the daily workflow. Thanks ------------------------ Fernando Velarde www.velarde.com Instagram.com/soyfervelarde
