Some issues I've been facing on the Export persona in AD (1.5.3.6x public and beta):

  • Slices don't always get the name of the artboard. If you rename the artboard the slice will keep the old name. If you're duplicating artboards this causes an issue where many slices have the same name and they'll be overwritten upon export
  • I have a document with over 10 artboards (each one gets a slice). If I zoom out and select them on the Slices panel I can't tell which one is selected or not. Due to the naming issue above it's really hard to tell which of the artboards is selected since some have the same name and you can't see the selection border. The selection border gets hidden behind the slice blue border.
  • There needs to be a way to completely hide (toggle show/hide) the slices markings
  • In the Layers panel (back in Vector Persona) if you double-click a layer AD will zoom it in to fit the viewport. This would be very, very useful in export persona too, in the Slices panel. Double clicking a slice in the listing would zoom into that slice.
  • Using the Slice tool sometimes selects an existing slice and sometimes it tries to create a new slice over an existing one. The behavior changes depending on zoom level and it's hard to replicate.
  • The Slice Selection Tool selects objects within the artboard instead of the slice
  • Selecting a artboard-slice by its name only works at greater zoom levels (100% or larger)
  • There needs to be actions (buttons or kbd shortcuts) to select all/select none slices
  • Selecting a slice highlights it on the Slices panel listing but does not scroll to it

Thanks for reading :)

Hey fernandolins86,

I think you've raised a few fair points here. I'll try and address everything.

- Slices don't always get the name of the artboard - They seem to get the name for me. Can you provide a specific recipe?

- Unable to tell which slice is selected - Agreed. This should be more obvious.

- Toggling slice markings - A good idea but definitely a feature request. Please feel free to add it.

- Zoom when double clicking a slice - Another feature request. I think this one is a great idea.

- Using the Slice tool sometimes selects an existing slice - As you say, this is hard to reproduce and I haven't had any luck. I'll keep poking it

- The Slice Selection Tool selects objects within the artboard - I believe this is supposed to select any object so you can click 'Create Slice' on the Layers Panel in Export Persona. Working as intended I think...

- Selecting an artboard slice by its name only works at greater zoom levels - I can select it at lower zooms but it is much more difficult. Could be improved.

- There needs to be actions to select all/no slices - Possibly. Definitely a feature request though. Please feel free to add it as one.

- Selecting a slice highlights it on the Slices panel but does not scroll to it - I agree, it probably should.

Seems to happen more often after duplicating an artboard and then renaming it. The slice created automatically for it doesn't update its name consistently.

Do I make a post with all these requests or one post per request?

Shouldn't the Slice selection tool's priority be to select the slices, tho? I can click through a slice and select an object "underneath" it way more easily than I can select the slice itself. Maybe there should be an object selection tool and a slice selection tool, or two modes of a same tool. This hibrid behavior is a little confusing.

Awesome.

It would be very helpful :)

Thanks!

- I will keep trying the slice name issue. If I can reproduce it I'll log it with development.

- I would recommend that you make a single post under the heading of 'Export Persona Improvements' or something similar and list your ideas.

- The Help defines the Slice Tool's behaviour clearly but I'm not opposed to your idea of it having increased functionality. Perhaps a toggle on the context toolbar?

Cheers :)
