Hi talhuman,

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

If you are using a Mac there's already a simpler media browser (menu View ▸ Browser...) you can use to load files from most common Mac libraries (iPhoto, Apple Photos, Aperture) as well as specific folders you add to it.

The Windows version doesn't have any integrated browser (which i assume it the version you are using from your request). As far as i know currently there's no plans to integrate a browser in the Windows version but we do intend/plan to develop a DAM application later which will integrate seamlessly with Affinity apps.

Hi talhuman,

The simple media browser is a nice touch but I'm beyond excited about the prospect of a dedicated DAM. Aside from the bloated and unattractive Adobe Bridge there's literally NO MARKET for third-party file managers geared towards designers. The closest I've come is Pixa, which I would recommend taking a look at for reference if you guys aren't familiar. Lingo is another (good)  DAM worth noting but it feels incredibly redundant unless you're working on a giant team with a load of assets. Even then, it feels limited compared to a fleshed out file browser. Asset management doesn't feel like a huge conversation piece on the Affinity forum.

I don't know what you guys have planned, but something that is sorely missing from the software world for designers is a DAM that acts as a workspace for designers. I'm waiting for something that I can create projects within and collect colors, font choices, inspiration, document iterations, quick export from vector to raster formats, tagging, etc.

miles.stevens2 has right. We have software like Fast Stone Image View which is very usefull to browse picture (but is not like mentioned Lingo), make fastest operation and from perspective designing is extending Windows Browsers with gadgets. Who like graphic can combine few programs to make custom workflow, but in a lot of time one app could be speed workflow

I've not heard about software with ability fx.:

Filtering by:

- final PDF, projects by used fonts,

- finding projects using particular element like company vector logo, picture

- projects by used color space, dimensions, type (like print, web)

- deadlines

Posibilities:

- make backup on another storage like Samba share / NAS disk, network device automaticly similar to local cloud

- grouping project by custom group like company name, audience

- checking incompatible files fx. exotic filetypes from disk

- checking writing project errors / reperaing file fx. missing fonts / files searching

- using command line to speed up common operation fx. on Windows I press Win+R and type custom name shourtcut to open Affinity Designer, FTP client and more. It is faster than clicking touchpad or use pen tool (I'm wacom user on my laptop)

- simplicity first with speed up optimalisation to faster load

and more. I think any graphic designer and hobbyst can make a wishlist here what he think DAM can be for him and we here can think that what can make projects dashboard browser extremely usefull.

https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/5336-file-system/?p=34539

1. display Photos in Fullscreen mode, go back and forth with the arrow keys
2. being able to delete photos by pressing backspace
3. zooming in (this should be easy for Affinity ;) )
4. see Camera Settings in Grid mode in an EXIF Panel (ISO, f-stop, exposure time..)
(two years ago)

and the answer was

We'll hand it to the Giraffe team... they can almost reach that fruit. ;)

but obviously this get's out of hand as soon as just everyone throws in a bunch of must haves

so nevertheless they agreed to make a DAM

We are going to make a professional Affinity DAM application - stay tuned in 2016 for more information ;)

Thanks,

Andy.

but until now there are no news and bugs/ missing features in AP and AD take priority for probably good reasoning

cheers  :)
