freehand selection tool

When I make a magic wand selection, I would like to do some refinement with the freehand selection tool. However, I can't find the keyboard shortcut for adding to my existing selection rather than just making a new selection.

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

After changing to the Freehand Selection Tool press ⌃(ctrl) + drag to add to the selection (left mouse button + right mouse button + drag on Windows) and ⌥ (option/alt) + drag to remove from the selection (ALT + drag on Windows). Check the bottom of the application window for additional shortcuts/modifiers.

Why not Ctrl + drag to add to a selection like on Mac? I find it rather odd.

Because the Mac has four modifier keys available while Windows only have three, so we had to make some compromises. I agree that this is not very intuitive on Windows and we are considering changing it.

I see... I hope you find a nice solution, the current one isn't very intuitive as you said.

In the meantime, I've been made aware of another awesome keyboard shortcut on Mac that can't be used on Windows, it's Control + Option + Drag to change a brush size and hardness on the go. Is there any way to do this on Windows?
