Vector outlines/borders in Affinity Designer

Recommended Posts

Good afternoon,

I'm fairly new to Affinity Designer and am currently working on a logo project. Is there a way to add a border/outline to a shape that is vector based? I've tried adding them by increasing the outline thickness of the shape but every time I export my work it's the only thing that still gets pixelated when I zoom in, all other aspects of the logo are crisp and clean as vector should be. Any ideas of what I may be doing wrong? Thanks

Hi Spotniq,

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

How are you increasing the "thickness" of the outline? Are you adding an Outline FX? If so note that all Layers effects are rasterised on export.

To achieve what you want you must increase the stroke width of the shape in the context toolbar (see screenshot below).

Hi Spotniq,

I'm not sure i understood your last question. The Expand Stroke command doesn't rasterise the stroke. It only converts the stroke to a shape, so you end up with two objects: one shape with just the original fill and no stroke colour and the other is the stroke itself converted to a shape and filled with the original object's stroke colour. So i don't think this is what causing your rasterisation issue on export (assuming you are not using brushes for the strokes - some are raster based). Any chance you can attach the afdesign file here or PM me a link to it so i can see what you are doing/working with? I may me able to advise you better.
