Howdy Hi! Newbee to Affinity Designer as of 3 days.

Adobe user for 15 years, CorelDRAW for 20 years.

I must say that Affinity has Adobe on the run! I have been a monthly paying user for over the past 7 years, and it is SO NICE to not have that looming over my bank account anymore. Granted, the learning curve is there, but I am adjusting, mostly finding the assets I relied on with PS for decades.

I have not tried the Affinity PHOTO yet, but have been transferring my illustrations to vector files in AFD (Affinity Designer) over the past few days. It's wasn't easy with the limited brushes it comes with, and my PS brushes aren't compatible, (sob), till I found this forum!

WOW

You guys are grand sharing these brushes with the community! I thought I would miss out on that benefit when making the move, but it's there! Thank you!

I do have questions though. I would like to know if there are the following brushes. I am an illustrator and need these for my works.

Landscape brushes (grasses, dirt, weeds, rocks, leaves (all different varieties to create landscapes for different zones, i.e, tropical, mountain, city, western, desert etc.)

Clothing brushes (textures of cloth, buttons, lace, denim, leathers, wool, patterns, plaids, floral, paisley)

Are there any links to resources available for things of this sort?

OR

Is there ways to manufacture my ps brushes to be used in AFD? I have over 800 brushes that could be converted for just such purposes.

I attached my first attempt using Designer for illustration. It isn't my best work, but it's a beginning.

Question, would I have better functionality using Affinity Photo like I was using Adobe Photoshop, or should I stay with AFD?

Another thumbs up on AFD over PS.

The main reason I made the move, is I was loading my book and illustrations to transfer to publication, due to the size of the files my mac went DOWN and all work was lost! Two years worth! very frustrating. AFD doesn't use as much ram, and I am able to work on 3 illustrations and have my reference photos etc running at the same time! Very nice!  I am using a iMac version 10.12.5 27" with macOS Sierra, with 1 TB on disk, 24 GB memory, using external storage on an AirTC of 10 TB, and 3 Google Drives.

How I lost it all makes no sense.

But when I made the move, my computer runs faster, hasn't lagged nor lost any files. (as of yet!)

As an Adobe Cloud User, I am looking for different programs for several projects, so far, I am ecstatic with AFD, I tried GIMP but my mac hated it. I downloaded Pencil and Synfig for my comics, haven't had the opportunity yet, but they look like the same set up as Adobe Flash before they became only dedicated to smart phone apps. (dumb move)

Is blender a good program? For developing 3D charactors? or is Sculptrus ?

I have one thing to share with you, a buddy of mine worked for EPIC Studio, which has now sharing FREE OF CHARGE their software for film, game dev. and charactor animation. Here is the link.

Well, I'm quite the chatter aren't I? I wish I had more to share as you all seem so generous with your assets! I hope to contribute as well after I get this darn book back up and published! See you in the Funny Papers!

Check out: www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNZbmvjtdmU. You can make brushes, I've done a few for myself following the tute. Don't know enough about converting PS brushes to say anything. The painting capabilities in Designer are similar to Photo, but Photo certainly has filter effects that Designer doesn't.

(GIMP isn't so bad, there are some really nice functions, depending on what has been added in to the base release.  But it is not very easy to use in quite a few ways.)
